If you know me the slightest, you're probably cracking up right now.
Me? Lover of sleep, beds, all things cozy and warm, writing a guide on waking up early??!
I know.
I'm laughing too. But honestly after so many years of groaning when my alarm goes off at 6 and crawling back into bed for a "two minute nap", I've become a waking-up pro. At this point I should've earned an award.
I've come a loooong way from middle school in a lot of regards, but my wake up skills have improved immensely. In seventh grade, I had this messed up routine where I would wake up, eat a bowl of cereal, then proceed to lay on my (very uncomfortable) hardwood floor for a "nap", then my mom would come in and yell that it's 7 o'clock and I'm going to miss the bus, I pop right up, throw some random arrangement of clothes on, and go.
I still groan when my alarm goes off every morning, but over the years I've learned a few little tips and tricks to make mornings just a little bit easier.

I still groan when my alarm goes off every morning, but over the years I've learned a few little tips and tricks to make mornings just a little bit easier.
1. A cool glass of water
It sounds stupid, like I never thought that a glass of water would help my eyes stay open but it does. Really. Every morning when my coffee is making, I pour myself a cold glass of water, and the freezing temperature no doubt wakes my body up. Throw in a lemon slice for an extra bonus!
2. Prep, prep, and more prep
Prepare EVERYTHING you possibly can the night before! It sounds obvious but the tiniest things help. I do everything from placing my coffee and mug in the Keurig, to laying my outfit out, to making sure all of my homework, books, and whatnots are in my backpack and ready to go for the next day. Everyone always told me that picking my outfit beforehand would help and I started doing it more this year and honestly it does! I am always running around to find some missing piece of my outfit if I don't do it the night before. So, moral of the story is, prepare everything you possibly can.
3. Jams
Listen to music while you're getting ready! I always throw on some jams when I'm doing my hair and makeup and it's so much easier waking up knowing you can hear that one song you've had on repeat for the past 24 hours.
4. Know your temperatures
Basically, my room is FREEZING every single morning, even in the middle of June. I'm always digging around my closet to find a sweatshirt or sweater I can throw on while I make breakfast and when I can't find one I get unreasonably grumpy and start the day off on the wrong foot. I guess this tip can be linked with tip 2, and it probably sounds obvious, but ALWAYS have a cardigan or blanket or other cozy device ready for when you get out of bed partially frozen.
5. Skip out on the Instagram breakfasts
I know. I know. It's hard not to make that photogenic, tasty French toast bake you found on Pinterest, but save it for the weekend. Unless you have time to spare in the morning, stick to easy to make and fast to eat breakfasts. I used to have a bowl of cereal every morning (I know, it's not that elaborate) but it took me forever to eat. I personally have Eggo waffles because I am WAY to sleepy to make anything but if you have to have something good, keep it simple.
6. Invest in cozy pajamas
Last tip and maybe not the most important, but everyone can admit that it's so much easier to get out of bed when you're wearing warm, well-fitting pjs.
I know these tips may seem extremely obvious but someone has to say it. It took me years to learn the basics of waking up and if you're like me, and you feel like napping on your hardwood floor (I feel you), then I hope at least one of these tips help you. Thanks reading, goodnight, bonsior, and happy waking-up!
xx,
Sarah
